HES Raffle Tractor
The 2009 raffle tractor has been purchased and restoration is underway.
This year’s tractor is a 1955 Massey Ferguson TO-35. It was already running when purchased. HES member Owen Gingerich has generously allowed the use of his heated shop for the restoration of this machine. It is being repainted to its original green and grey color scheme. Some of the work done on the tractor so far includes replacing the rear rims, centers, and tubes. The fenders had some rust damage and have been repaired. The gauges were in bad shape and have been replaced, along with numerous other cosmetic and mechanical repairs. This should be a nice tractor when completed. Look for a full report on those who contributed to this project in a future newsletter.
Machine Shop Update
The sawmill addition/machine shop project has been approved by GCHS. GCHS has given us some foundation stone they have on hand to use for the project. We have also had some timber donated for the frame of the building. We hope to begin work in the spring.
Sandy Paterek’s Christmas Party Report
The Christmas Party was attended by 50 people. The weather was cold, but sunny. We had a wonderful variety and very tasty food this year. I think a good time was had by all. It was great to catch up with members we don’t see very often. There was a table raffle with various tractor and non-tractor prizes, and also a 50/50 raffle. The winner of the 50/50 took home $60.00. I want to thank everyone that helped set-up and clean-up, you make organizing the party a lot easier. Thank you to all of you that attended, I hope you enjoyed yourselves and I hope to see you next year.
Show Program
We have decided to reduce the cost of ads in the show program. It is hoped that this will lead to more ads. The show program was started as a fundraiser for HES, but in the past few years, we haven’t made much on it. We also will probably reduce the number of programs we print. We are open to suggestions on this project. And, as always, all help is appreciated.
Apple Butter Festival
GCHS had great weather and a good turnout this year for their annual Apple Butter Festival. HES had the sawmill running both days, and cut quite a bit of lumber. The sawmill crew consisted of Norm Baxter, Brian Baxter, Josh Kistler, Jerry Kuen, and Dave Metcalf. Michael Sappio had Murphy’s Railroad running on Sunday of the festival.
