Hello everyone,
Wow, what a great show! We had some pretty impressive displays this year. If you missed it, you missed a lot. We had a nice display right up front of Rumely Oil Pull tractors, Hart Parr’s and other equipment. The church green had a very nice array of tractors. The gas engine display is improving now that we are once again able to park some vehicles with the displays. We had a couple come all the way from Ilderton, Ontario, Canada with a pretty impressive display of inboard and outboard motors that included a Dispro, a Gilson, a couple Fairmont engines and several others. Of course we had a great display from Larry Kotkowski and Lakeside Sand & Gravel. It was no easy task to bring the Speed Crane and the many other items to Burton. We had a wide variety of equipment in the east field. We even had a game of “Tractor Basketball”! Also, the folks from the Dodge Brothers club came on Sunday with some pretty terrific looking automobiles. I have received many compliments on a great weekend that was had by all.
The parade went off without a hitch…both days! Nothing moving too slowly and no one ran out of gas. As we continue to do the parade each year, we are hoping that more people will sit in lawn chairs and wave as we drive by and maybe we can throw candy to the kids. We just need to get the word out.
The picnic was great as usual and many thanks to members Todd & Ame West of West Orchards for once again donating the corn and to Jason Kirby II for picking it up and bringing it to the picnic. Thanks to Jim Weikart for using his Port Huron to steam the corn and the volunteers who grilled and served the food. Also, let’s not forget Dorothy Green who for years has picked up the food for the picnic and brought it to the show grounds.
Once again the staff and volunteers of Century Village Museum were great to work with. Without them, this event would not have been the same. I would also like to thank Richard Smigelski, Chief of Police, Burton. Chief Smigelski was instrumental in not only helping with the organization of the parades around Burton but also in the many tasks at Century Village Museum during the show.
The raffle tractor was won by Randy and Linda Patsy of East Brady, Pennsylvania. They were so excited to win the tractor and said it will go very well with their collection of Allis Chalmers tractors. They display the tractor out in front of their house so that when people stop by to buy corn or use their notary service, they see it and ask questions. By the way, they have affectionately named the tractor “Ghost”! They are in the process of writing an article to be published in Iron Memories magazine. Thanks to Dave Metcalf, Joe Drienka, Owen Gingerich, Dave Retger, Mike Sappio, George Davis and the others who helped with the restoration.
I do want to take a minute to thank those who dedicated the whole weekend to running the club office. They were checking in exhibitors, renewing memberships and were selling raffle tickets, baskets, t-shirts, hats, calendars, show directories, past buttons and plaques, etc. When you see them, please extend thanks to Jeff & Sue Gibbs, Pat Mitchell, Marc Krol, Sandy Paterek and Penny Kirby. Also, be sure to thank Brian Baxter for spending all day Thursday, Sunday and Monday orchestrating the heavy hauling.
Believe it or not we are already planning the 2011 show. We will be featuring Oliver tractors and Fairbanks Morse gas engines. Also, we will be picking up the 2011 raffle tractor soon. The tickets are in the process of being printed so that we can start selling them at some of the shows yet this year such as the Lake Farmpark Fall Harvest and the Pumpkin Festival just to name a couple. The grand prize for the 2011 raffle will be a 1940 John Deere B. Work on it has already begun to get it ready to take to shows. If you would like to help take it to shows and sell tickets, please let me know.
Well that’s it for now. Thank you to you all who have helped with another successful show! I hope to see more of you all before the next show. Remember, we meet every second Thursday at 7PM in the basement of the church at Century Village Museum. Stop by and help us plan a great 41st Annual Antique Power Exhibition!
